It's nice to know these things about candles

Candle Tips

Candles that have been made using 'lead' wicks can be a health hazard. Here at Southern Candle we only use the highest quality 'zinc' wicks, which pose no health hazards.

In order for your candle to burn properly and not smoke you will need to keep your wicks trimmed to no more than 1/4".

As a general rule, wicks should be trimmed every 3-4 hours of burning.

Make sure you let your candle burn long enough to form a puddle around the whole top surface. This will allow the candle to burn more efficiently. Unlike most other candle companies who's candles do burn a hole down the center, our candles will burn even and completely all the way down, leaving no waste around the sides of the container. In turn you get a long burning, high quality candle that smells wonderful.

Candles will fade if they are exposed to all kinds of light, from sunlight to the incandescent lights in your home. However, unlike most candle manufactures Southern Candle puts 2 forms of UV protection in their candles that slows this fading process down. Sunlight is the worst so try and position your candle so it gets very little sunlight.

Store scented candles in the fridge to keep them fresh. This also helps them to burn longer.

When you have scented candles that can't be burned any more, put them in your clothes closets and drawers.  When you open the closets and drawers they have such a nice smell to them.

"Mushrooms" on the tip of the wick are carbon deposits caused by highly fragrant candles. They usually appear after a long burning cycle. Before lighting your candle, trim the "mushroom" deposits. Make sure that the trimmings do not fall into the wax pool.
