As volunteers in Kenya in 2000, Kevin Ward and Renice Jones helped artisans and craftspeople in their community market their crafts internationally by creating a web site to sell crafts. Through workshops and day-to-day activities, the volunteers trained the craftspeople on e-commerce, financial management, fair trade practices, and the importance of quality. In 2002, the couple completed their volunteer service and continued marketing and selling crafts in the US. The business became a corporation in 2004 and serves more than 400 wholesale customers throughout the US and Canada, and has opened a division in the UK. Working with producers around the world, including those they worked with in the beginning, the company provides crafts from Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Chile, Haiti, Vietnam, Thailand , Bolivia, Mexico and the Philippines, and add new producers often.

The mission of the corporation is the same as when Kevin and Renice were volunteers: To offer income generating opportunities to craftspeople in developing countries by following fair trade practices including paying in advance at least the market price for items, ensuring that crafts people receive payment and work in fair working conditions. By working directly with the artisans, craftspeople and producer groups, we hope to improve the lives of some of the people with whom we share this planet.
